Strategic Priorities

In order to serve our members, MGRC will focus on the following four strategic priorities over the next three years.

Membership Development

Create a more diverse, inclusive, and vibrant professional community.

  • Establish an MGRC "buddy program" for welcoming and onboarding new members.
  • Leverage relationships with partner organizations to strengthen those partnerships and promote MGRC.
  • Implement Diversity & Inclusion Board training.
  • Develop Diversity & Inclusion organization policy.

Lobbyist Ethics & Public Relations

Promote ethical practices and positive reputation.

  • Update and educate members on Campaign Finance Board rules, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Establish definition of "lobbying" with clear understanding of lobbyist profession.
  • Continue to host Lobbyist 101 programming virtually.

Lobbyist Access

Improve and ensure effective access to the legislative process.

  • Improve and ensure effective access to the process and continue to advocate on behalf of members:
    • For remote participation by the public.
    • For full participation by Legislators.
    • For full opening of all legislative spaces.
    • To inform Legislators and staff of the importance of government relations to the legislative process.

Lobbyist Regulations

Advocate on behalf of lobbying as a profession.

  • Continuing the relationship with the Campaign Finance Board regarding lobbyist disclosures and reporting requirements.
  • Create lobbying/lobbyist definition.
  • Develop process to stay informed of lobbyist bills.

Minnesota Governmental Relations Council serves Government Relations Professionals by providing advocacy, professional development, networking and an enhanced working experience inside and outside the Capitol because we believe in the importance of ethical representation in the public policy process.
